How Far We Have Come
What is really fascinating is to look back and see just how far you have come. Often we’re told to not look back because we’re not going that way – but every once in awhile taking that moment to peak back in time just to reaffirm your accomplishments is absolutely gratifying.
There are times in sweat and tears that you’re just not convinced that this horsemanship stuff will work out. It seems so confusing to us, and to the horse.
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve documented a lot of our sessions together for a couple of reasons:
- because I want to see how I can fix something, do I have my timing right, did I miss an opportunity
- just like every proud mama out there, there are moments when you want to brag about your kid (horse)
But in all seriousness, it was actually looking back at the footage when things weren’t pretty, and when there were moments where it seemed frustrating. When we were both confused. And I just kept trying, and so did Ozzy. It got ugly a few times because we both got confused.
Watching the videos and seeing the tail wringing, rearing, kicking out, bucking, bolting off, it reminds me of the importance of leaving my emotions at the gate and continue working to reward the behaviour that I wanted.
I’m very proud of how far we’ve come in truly a short time.
